Free pet travel seminars in town

More than 69 million U.S. households have pets, and an estimated 84% of families enjoy traveling in the car with their dogs—and the occasional odd cat. According to an American Automobile Association (AAA) survey, however, little is done to restrain the pets. In response, Toyota Venza is sponsoring free hourly pet travel seminars for pets and their owners, given by certified trainers approved by the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, CO. The trainers will demonstrate how to properly secure pets in vehicles while traveling, maximize pet comfort while on the road and provide tips on preparing Fido or Fluffo for long car trips. The new Venza will be available for rides and photo-ops, allowing humans and their animal companions the opportunity to test a range of pet restraint equipment. Dog treats and bowls, LED collar safety lights, funny “dog-licking” screensavers featuring your faithful friend, and other canine giveaways round out the day of pet travel education and fun. And doughnuts and coffee for you. Activities will focus on dogs, but there’s no reason not to ask cat questions as well.

The seminars will take place Friday, Feb. 27, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at Recreation Dog Park, 4900 E. 7th St., Long Beach, CA 90804; and Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at the Long Beach Dog Zone, 1 Bennett Ave. Long Beach, CA. Email [email protected] for information.

Feb. 28, Justice 4 Karley vigil

Join Last Chance for Animals (LCA) for a candlelight vigil and dog walk from 4–6 p.m. at Venice Beach as we continue the fight for Justice 4 Karley. In November, the 6-month-old German shepherd puppy was beaten by her neighbor and had to be euthanized, Los Angeles Fire Department official Glynn Johnson. In December, Johnson was charged with one count of felony animal cruelty with two enhancements of using a deadly weapon to commit a felony! Please bring your friendly dogs and join us as we continue to fight for justice to be served. Take the 405 freeway to Venice Blvd., go about 3 ½ miles west.  Make a right onto Pacific Coast Highway and go about 1.2 miles north, then make a left onto Barnard Way.  Lot 5 is on the beach side about a quarter mile north.  Click here for more info.
