10:00am | I guess it’s possible that I could have had even more fun at the Red Bull Flugtag, but too much more and I might have seriously hurt myself.

Today I’m feeling only love for a city that, in terms of entertainment anyways, has been giving all year long without showing any signs of letting up. Flugtag was just the latest fantastic event and it seems to have brought out the best in the people who attended, specifically the man who gave me and my pal his children’s tickets to a private event and especially the nice folks with the yacht, who invited a poor photographer aboard and shared with him their food, drink and camaraderie.

My adoptive yacht also afforded a perfect view of those flight-challenged machines being wheeled one at a time in 20-minute intervals off the end of a temporary ramp before plunging some 30 feet into the water below. With my spectacular new accommodations it seemed pointless to keep the appointment I had made to ride on the much, much smaller boat set aside for members of the press.

Some of the crafts, much like the noble chicken or Gilligan in that one episode where he tries to fly off the island, did briefly take flight before reality came crashing down upon them. Others performed as well as a penguin would were it chucked off the same ramp. But for the inevitability of each journey’s conclusion, it was no less exhilarating to watch.
