Thankfully there appear to have been no serious injuries during the horrific scene that unfolded Wednesday afternoon, when a Metro Blue Line train collided with a Long Beach Police Department vehicle and dragged it about 75 feet before both came to a rest – the car still wrapped around the train.

The incident occurred around 1:00pm at the intersection of 16th Street and Long Beach Boulevard.

Firefighters used the Jaws Of Life to remove the officer inside and transported him to a local hospital with what they called “moderate” injuries, though it could have been much worse if any more time had gone by. Thankfully, there was no passenger in the car.

Firefighters also treated about ten train passengers who complained of neck and back pains after the accident, and treated them before sending them to hospitals as well. Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened.
