Date nights and night owl shopping at the Pike Outlets are about to get a lot brighter now that construction on the Ferris wheel is complete. Celebrate the reveal of the colorful new wheel at the “Light the Night” event when it reopens Thursday evening, September 28.
More than 2,000 LED lights now adorn the 90-foot attraction originally built in 2005 to recreate the feel of the early 1950’s waterfront amusement park. Along with the roller-coaster-inspired pedestrian bridge and carousel ride, the Ferris wheel is a historic and defining element of The Pike.
“The Ferris wheel at The Pike Outlets is a beloved icon of the downtown waterfront area where hundreds of families enjoy the ocean and city views from the top of the ride,” said Morgan Erickson, property manager of The Pike Outlets, in a statement. “We are excited to see the colorful LED lighting that will give the wheel a modern look to complement the new shopping retailers at The Pike Outlets. We hope it remains an exciting attraction for locals and Long Beach visitors.”
Renovations began in July and the wheel has been closed since.
Silent DJs and a live dance party will kick off festivities at 6:00PM and a fireworks show will follow the reveal at 8:00PM. According to officials with the Pike Outlets, the first 300 participants can check out a pair of wireless headphones (just bring a form of ID) and select from three different DJs to have that music broadcast directly to their headphones during 15-minute sessions.
The free event will be holding contests and giveaways and food trucks will have food available to purchase. Arrive early as the first 50 guests in line will receive a free ticket to ride, otherwise the price to ride the Ferris wheel is $4.
The Pike Outlets are located at 95 South Pine Avenue.
