Tomorrow, Leadership Long Beach hosts its 17th Annual Putt-Putt on Pine for the hundreds of wacky golfers to enjoy eating, drinking and exploring downtown Long Beach. This year’s event will have restaurants and business in three locations of Downtown Long Beach with wacky miniature golf along the way, plus the evening ends in the parking lot of MillWorks (the former historic Press-Telegram building) for the showing of arguably the best golf movie ever, Caddyshack. All of this fun, food and excitement including prizes and a silent auction is just $40 a player.
Now in its 17th incarnation, Putt-Putt on Pine is a miniature golf tournament that has restaurants and businesses in downtown Long Beach and the East Village host a miniature golf hole that provides appetizers and beverages (alcoholic, in some cases). For the registration fee, the golfers can visit the establishments, play the golf hole-which in many cases is themed to the business/restaurant, sample the appetizers and drinks (there may be a small charge for the alcoholic ones), and compete for prizes/gifts. Groups of players can form teams around wacky themes with the spirit of the event built more on visiting, exploring and supporting businesses and restaurants. Overall, the golf portion of the event is not competitive, but the fun is.
Golf hole locations will include familiar locations such as L’Opera, George’s Greek Café, and Taco Beach on Pine Avenue as well as newer locations through HOPA (Historic Old Pine Avenue) that include Kress Market, MADHaus (Music Art Digital media), and Vayden Roi Galleries. Local artists will be available to assist locations, especially the new ones, in creating golf holes that match their business. Golfers will help judge the best and hardest golf holes as well as vote on the holes with the best food and drink.
Putt-Putt on Pine is the signature Leadership Long Beach’s FUN-raising event to raise money for the organization premier principled leadership programs and activities. Putt-Putt on Pine supports and promotes the businesses of Downtown Long Beach and the East Village as well as provides a social outing for residents to see and visit the area in a very casual and comfortable setting.
