Three San Diego-area theatre companies have been announced as the participants in the American Association of Community Theatre’s California State Festival, which will be hosted for the first time at the Long Beach Playhouse on Valentine’s Day.

The bi-annual festival presents a forum for community theatres within AACT’s 10 regions to enter productions for adjudication and advancement to various levels of competition.

New Group West of San Diego will perform “I Am My Own Wife” by Doug Wright, Patio Playhouse from Escondido will perform “Gidion’s Knot” by Johanna Adams and PowPac of Poway’s Community Theatre in Poway will perform “I Do, I Do, I Do” by Robin Hawdon at the festival on February 14.

The winner of the California competition will move on to the Regional Fest in Flagstaff, Arizona in March to compete for a spot at the National Fest in June, being held in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“It is a very exciting venture and such an honor to host the AACTFest in our Studio theatre,” said Andrew Vonderschmitt, Executive and Producing Artistic Director of the Playhouse, in a statement. “We’re looking forward to the challenge and to making new friends in the field.”

Attendees will also be able to participate in the following workshops at the festival:

10:00AM: Audition Intensive presented by Gregory Cohen
10:00AM: Directing Community Theatre Actors presented by Dennis Gilmore
Noon: How to Go to AACTFest presented by Gil Savage and Liz Lydic (FREE)
