2:30pm | Calling all Scouts!
It’s that time of year again — time for the annual Scout-O-Rama put on by the Long Beach Area Council Boy Scouts of America. And for the first time, the event isn’t just for the boys.
That’s right; Girl Scouts are welcome at Saturday’s “Wild About Scouting”-themed gathering at Heartwell Park, as is the community.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features family-friendly exhibits, skits and competitions.
Cub Scouts are set to create obstacle courses, launch 2-liter bottle rockets, cast fishing lures and race in Pinewood derby cars.
Boy Scouts will build log towers, demonstrate backpacking and camping techniques, demonstrate bandage wraps and harness youth to slide down a 200-foot zip line.
Sea Scouts are expected to have sailboats on display.
The entertainment lineup includes Native American dancing at 10 a.m., a sled dog demonstration at 11 a.m. and the International Children’s Choir at noon.
Attendees can park at Long Beach City College for $1. Heartwell Park is located at 5801 E. Parkcrest St.
