This holiday season, items from the wish lists of more than 500 pediatric facilities, including two in Long Beach, will be purchased, thanks to Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Through Starlight’s Wish List Platform, hospitals can request needed items, and people can purchase the items for them through an Amazon-like website.

“It’s just like shopping online at Amazon, except instead of the items getting delivered to your door, they get delivered directly to the hospitals that requested them,” said Sarah Clark, spokeswoman for Starlight Children’s Foundation.

This year, St. Mary Medical Center and Miller Children’s Hospital each have wish lists asking for items, such as toys, gift cards, games and DVDs.

Starlight’s Wish List Platform was inspired about four years ago and launched last September. Starlight, an LA-based charity, discovered it needed to create a business model that would allow them to support facilities including clinics, respite houses, hospices and camps that had yet to benefit from Starlight’s programs, Clark said.

“As a result, Starlight’s Wish List platform was created to be a model for donor transparency and support so that every donor, regardless of donation amount, can see the full needs of facilities they care about in local communities from coast to coast, and they have the power to point and click in a manner that provides timely, tangible and transparent support to our partner facilities,” she said.
