The Queen Mary announced earlier this week that a new state-of-the-art 4-D Theater experience will open on the vintage ocean liner on Friday, November 20.

The attraction will replace a decades-old theater located in the aft section of the vessel, according to the release. The theater was designed by SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment in collaboration with The Queen Mary’s dedicated historians. The 121-seat theater will coincide with the look of The Queen Mary to evoke a sense of old Hollywood glamour and art deco style.

The revamped theater will deliver a high-definition 3-D experience with 7.1 digital audio surround sound, complete with a variety of sensory stimulants built into the seats and surrounding theater environment. Audience members will be immersed in the bubbles, wind and scents coordinated with the present on-screen happenings.

“Our guests are not only going to enjoy the shows in the theater but appreciate the authenticity of the environment itself,” said The Queen Mary General Manager John Jenkins in a statement. “We could not be happier about the timing of the opening with our popular CHILL holiday event and launching this incredible new theater with the Polar Express 4-D.”

THE POLAR EXPRESS 4-D, a 13-minute family-friendly show, will be shown November 20 through January 10, coinciding with CHILL. Starting on January 11, SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D: The Great Jelly Rescue and Planet Earth: Shallow Seas 4-D Experience will be featured, preceded by custom pre-show content featuring scenes from many a Hollywood film shot on the Queen Mary.
