The Social List will host its second annual The Power of Women block party on April 6 featuring a tap takeover with Drake’s Brewing. The event will showcase photography from the Los Angeles Women’s March 2018 by artist Viviana Camacho and live music from local folk duo Bearcoon.
Owners of The Social List Luis and Brenda Navarro said they wanted to throw a second Power of Women event following the momentum gained during the #MeToo movement, as well as the recent women’s march in January.
Ten percent of the proceeds from Drake’s Brewing—whose head brewer is DeVonne Buckingham with half its crew made up of women (a gender breakdown found few and far between within the beer scene)—will be donated to nonprofits Artful Thinking Organization (ATO) and The Los Angeles Pink Dragons (LA Pinks).
ATO provides programs that focus on educating the public about HIV/AIDS and breast cancer. LA Pinks is California’s first breast cancer survivor dragon boat racing team, and is dedicated to improving fitness and quality of life for breast cancer survivors.
The Navarros stated the Power of Women event seeks to raise awareness of the movement toward social, political and economic equality of the sexes, with the reminder of how the women’s march “brought so many different ethnicities, generations and genders” together.
The event will be held from 6:00PM to 10:00PM. For more information, check out the Facebook event page here.
The Social List is located at 2105 East 4th Street.
