On a mission to bring locals closer to their food, Long Beach Fresh has organized a four-day series of events they’ve dubbed the “Long Beach Foodways Spring Summit,” designed to connect and educate Long Beach-ers about our local food system.

On Thursday, March 31, is the free DelicaSea seafood showcase at the Bixby Knolls Farmers Market (Atlantic Avenue and E. 46th Street), where visitors can check out a plethora of local seafood, sample some chef-prepared bites and learn more about the local aquaculture.

On Friday, April 1, head on over to the Bixby Knolls Expo Arts Center (4321 Atlantic Ave.) for the Long Beach County Fair, where local farmers will be showing their best produce in hopes of winning the Blue Ribbon Urban Agriculture Contest. Note: This event is in tandem with First Fridays in Bixby Knolls, so the whole area will be buzzing with pop-ups, music and entertainment.

Then, on Saturday, April 2 is both the North Long Beach Crop Swap (10 a.m.), where neighboring growers gather to share garden-grown produce, plants and herbs and the Home Cooks and Home Garden Tours (11:30 a.m.), that will take visitors on a tour of some of the city’s loveliest gardens.

Closing out the series will be the Cambodian Night “Marklet” around the Maye Center (2153 E. Anaheim St.) where locals can check out local Cambodian food, growers, makers, artists and enjoy family-friendly activities.

“SPAMILTON: AN AMERICAN PARODY” MUSICAL – CARPENTER CENTER (Friday – Sunday)

As with any cultural phenomenon, parody and spoofs abound. Only a year after “Hamilton” debuted in 2015, rocking the theater world in its wake, did award-winning writer and director Gerard Alessandrini (best known for “Forbidden Broadway”) create a parody version of the wildly successful musical inspired by the life of Alexander Hamilton.

Now Musical Theatre West is bringing the musical comedy “Spamilton: An American Parody” to Long Beach in the first regional production at the Carpenter Center, that includes celebrity satires, pop culture zings, plus new and original material written specifically for Musical Theatre West audiences.

Showtimes are Friday-Sunday until April 10 and range from $22-$96.  Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken 24 before the show is required. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.

The Carpenter Performing Arts Center at the Cal State Long Beach Campus is at 6200 E. Atherton St.
