The Pike at Rainbow Harbor and the Breast Center at the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Memorial have teamed up for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the month of October, valets at the Pike will be collecting donations to help expand breast cancer research and prevention programs at Long Beach Memorial.

One in eight women are diagnosed with cancer each year. Research programs at the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute help physicians offer their patients innovative therapy and treatment and stay on the frontlines of finding a cure for cancer. Actively and aggressively recruiting in early clinical trials, the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute offers patients access to the latest clinical trials and full-range of treatment options.

“At the Breast Center at the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute we participate in a wide range of trials that reflect all stages of cancer care from early diagnosis, treatment and long term survival,” says Cathy Kopy, executive director, MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute. “Having an active clinical research program is imperative to helping our patients diagnosed with breast cancer every year, but also is important in the prevention of breast cancer, with genetic testing and mammogram technologies.”

Throughout the Pike’s month-long campaign, the Pike valet team members will be showing their support in pink polo shirts with some team members wearing name tags with names of friends or family members who have been touched by cancer. Also, a Pike Honor Wall will be offered for those who wish to write the name of a loved one in remembrance of those lost, to encourage those still fighting and support the ones that have won the fight. Customers will be encouraged to donate to the Breast Center at the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute to help find a cure.

“We are so excited to be joining forces with Long Beach Memorial,” says Rose Barrantes, General Manager, DDR Corp., parent company of the Pike at Rainbow Harbor. “Breast cancer has touched the lives of millions of people in the United States and we are happy to help aid in the fight against breast cancer. For anyone joining the fight, look for valet attendants, in pink polo shirts, and ask them how you can participate.” The Pike is a 369,000 square foot waterfront entertainment district located in downtown
Long Beach. The Pike opens at 11 a.m., daily. The Pike Valet operates seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Pike at Rainbow Harbor is owned and operated by Ohio-based company DDR Corp.
