UPDATE Thursday, April 14, 2:35pm |  A Long Beach woman who recently self-published a children’s book will host a book signing and release party Saturday at Gatsby Books.

Dupé Aleru, a former Long Beach Unified teacher, in March announced the release of her book, “Animals in Action A-Z.” The book engages children with creatures big and small as, together, they embark upon a new journey to learn the alphabet.

Children and adults alike are encouraged to attend the family-friendly event, which will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at the East Long Beach book store.

In addition to autographing her book, Aleru, who currently serves as the education reporter for The Beverly Hills Courier, said that the afternoon is slated to be filled with story time, games, a raffle and a musical performance, all rounded out with snacks, drinks and prizes for those in attendance.

Children will be “mesmerized” as they join Alli and the other animals featured in Aleru’s book on their action-words adventure, the author said.

Gatsby Books is located at 5535 E. Spring St. at Bellflower Boulevard.

Aleru is a professional educator with a passionate commitment to student development and the learning experience. She began her career as an elementary school teacher, receiving her B.A., M.S., Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Pupil Personnel Services Credential from various universities.

As a new author with a passion for teaching, Aleru continues to educate children in countless ways. Animals in Action A-Z, is an emergent reader for children ages 3-6, who are learning the alphabet. 

“Alli and the other animal characters come alive on their action words adventure,“ said Aleru. “There are playful, multi-colored pictures and an engaging story to entertain children as they learn to recognize the sound-letter relationship as beginning readers. “
