Think of the third Happy Sundays festival, as a ridiculously awesome block party… that goes on for blocks.
The party was founded by rockstars Scott Montoya, a former member of The Growlers, and owner of C.O.M.A. Studios (Centre Of Mental Arts) and his wife Julia Montoya, of The Coathangers. They are both in a band called White Woods. Both White Woods and The Coathangers will be performing during the festival today. So will nearly 50 bands and comedy acts on and around Anaheim Street in the Zaferia District at nine venues ranging from bars to clubs to restaurants to theaters to yoga studios.
There will be two trolleys stopping at all venues so you don’t have to walk or drink and drive. The entertainment was curated by the Montoyas and other locals with good taste and includes a heavy mix of both LA and Long Beach bands; an eclectic mix ranging from DJs to psychedelic to dark wave, post punk, blues and folk. There will be comedy at the Long Beach Playhouse where one of the sponsors, Crook and Marker, will be pairing the laughs with some free booze.
And that’s why they call it Happy Sundays.
