Teams of wounded veterans battling the waters off the California coast against all odds next week will stop in Long Beach during their journey.
The crew of war-injured veterans and active servicemen—many who have lost limbs in combat—in the second annual Never Quit Challenge are boarding personal watercraft and launching from Morro Bay on Monday before ending their trip on Thursday in the San Diego area, nearly 400 miles from where they started.
The teams, which represent three charitable foundations supporting wounded veterans, will make stops in Long Beach on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This year, the teams are supporting the Phoenix Patriot Foundation, the Station Foundation and the MARSOC Foundation.
Last year, the groups raised more than $100,000 and are hoping to exceed that goal this year.
“These guys are just plain tough,” said Shawn Alladio, event organizer, in a statement. “They have each been through their own personal traumas and have become even more determined by their experiences, and just meeting the same financial goal won’t satisfy them.”
The participants will ride up to six hours a day at speeds exceeding 30 miles-per-hour.
They will arrive at the boat ramp by the Queen Mary, located at 590 Queensway Drive, on Tuesday morning and will stay through Wednesday at 7AM.
An estimated time of arrival on Tuesday is not yet known, and we will update the story when we find out.
