A person was killed and two others were hospitalized early Saturday morning following a fiery crash on the 710 Freeway, officials said.

Authorities later identified the deceased person as Erik Moen, 57, or Yorba Linda.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on the southbound 710 Freeway at Del Amo Boulevard, officials said. Reports described that a semi-truck and a vehicle collided, causing the semi-truck to turn over on its side and roll for “some distance,” Long Beach Fire Captain Jack Crabtree said.

When the LBFD arrived at the scene, they witnessed the truck on its side and the other vehicle on fire, Crabtree said. Upon arrival, Moen was declared dead, authorities said. Firefighters extricated one person from the wreckage using the “Jaws of Life.”

Two other people were transported to a local hospital by fire personnel, one with more serious injuries than the other, officials said. But the extent of their injuries is not known at this time, Crabtree said.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
