Police say they’ve arrested a 48-year-old Long Beach man who allegedly attacked multiple women along Atlantic Avenue on Monday evening, leaving one of them hospitalized with multiple stab wounds.
Xavier Howell was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery and robbery, police said. His bail was set at $50,000, inmate records show.
The stabbing occurred just before 6:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Atlantic Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
A woman was walking up to a bus stop in the area when, according to authorities, Howell approached her, beat her, and then stabbed her. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, police said.
Officers later discovered Howell had approached another woman nearby, at Pacific Coast Highway and Atlantic Avenue, and also attacked her, police said, adding that she was treated at the scene.
A motive for the attacks is still under investigation, police said.
