A woman was struck by gunfire coming from a neighboring apartment on the 1000 block of Hoffman Avenue Sunday night, police reported.

A 15-year-old girl had fired off a gun in the neighboring apartment, shooting through the wall and hitting the 20-year-old woman next door, according to police. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries to her lower torso. She is reported to be in stable condition.

Police are still  investigating the circumstances of the shooting. “What we do know is that the juvenile was in a room with a firearm and that’s when the negligent discharge occurred,” said Long Beach police spokesperson Brandon Fahey.

Both the 15-year-old and an adult relative, Ruby Jene Ibarra, were arrested on the scene. Ibarra was arrested on one count of child cruelty and one count of criminal storage of a firearm. Bail was set at $100,000.
