Police say they arrested a teenager on suspicion of robbery and theft Tuesday night after he and two others led officers on a short pursuit through Long Beach in an allegedly stolen vehicle.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9 p.m. to the area of Fourth Street and Olive Avenue in the city’s East Village neighborhood after reports about a vehicle that had been reported stolen in an armed carjacking outside of Long Beach.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the 16-year-old driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit to the 900 block of Rose Avenue in Long Beach’s Hellman neighborhood before crashing into a power pole and knocking out the power to the nearby area, police said. After the crash, three suspects emerged from the vehicle and fled on foot, LBPD Officer Paige White said.

Officers established a perimeter in the area and eventually arrested the teenager but were unable to locate the other two suspects, White said. The 16-year-old, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was also booked on suspicion of charges related to evading police, according to the LBPD.

SoCal Edison also responded to the scene to restore power to the area. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department could not immediately provide details related to the carjacking. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
