Police were investigating gunfire between two men in North Long Beach on Friday morning after finding bullet casings and buildings struck by the gunfire, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said that around 12:30 a.m. officers arrived at 56th Street and Langport Avenue near the Seaport Village Apartments, where they found a man who said he was shot at by another man who approached him. The victim shot back at the suspect, who fled the scene before police arrived, according to the LBPD. No one was reportedly injured, police said.

Police detained, interviewed, and later released the victim, they said, and police believe the motive for the shooting is “gang-related.” The LBPD defines gang-related crimes as any crime committed “for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with any criminal street gang.”
