Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze in a North Long Beach home this morning and while no residents were hurt, they did find two dead pets inside, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jack Crabtree said.

Firefighters arrived at the home on Janice Street near Elm Avenue around 11 a.m. and saw smoke coming from the attic and a fire in the front area of the home, Crabtree said.

Firefighters contained the flames to that part of the home and extinguished them within 4 minutes of arriving, he said.

The residents of the home, four adults, escaped without injury, according to Crabtree. He said he didn’t know whether the pets that perished were cats or dogs.

The Red Cross is helping the residents who were displaced because of the damage.
