An e-mail sent by Councilmember Gary DeLong to Belmont Shore residents expains that crews will begin repaving 2nd Street from Bayshore to Livingston next week, installing a shared lane for bikes in the process. The e-mail also included a photo of a “sharrow” that is currently being used in Salt Lake City, Utah.
DeLong says the move will be made as part of the city’s “Bike Mobility Plan.” A few weeks ago, Long Beach was named one of 13 “Bike Friendly Communities” by the League of American Bicyclists.
Repaving will begin on Thursday, May 21, according to the e-mail, while additional slurrying will be done on May 26 and 27 between the hours of 10:00pm-6:00am.
Biking photographer extraordinaire Russ Roca invites us to check out his blog, which addresses a recent ticket Roca received for doing exactly what is permitted by the sharrow.
