Fatal crash on 710 Freeway started with car plunging from transition road

A Huntington Park man was killed Sunday when his car went off a transition road and fell 60 feet to the 710 Freeway below, authorities said.

It happened at 4:55 a.m. on the transition road from the 710 south to the 91 Freeway east, California Highway Patrol Officer G. Larson said.

Enrique Boris Alvarado Mira, 23, was driving a white 2005 Nissan Altima through the transition when he went off the road and over the retaining wall, Larson said.

“The vehicle fell approximately 60 feet, rotated and struck the main portion of I-710 northbound on its roof,” the officer said.

The car then slid on its roof into the tunnel where the 710 passes under the 91, Larson said.

Fire crews rushed to the scene to douse the flames resulting from the crash and to try to free Mira from the wreckage, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

“A combination of alcohol and drugs is being investigated as a factor in this collision,” Larson said.

Mira’s 24th birthday would have been Monday.
