A 70-year-old man was killed Thursday night in a crash on the 710 Freeway in Long Beach.

The crash was reported just after 6 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. A vehicle was reported to have gone down an embankment on the right side of the freeway’s northbound lanes and struck a tree, the CHP said.

Coroners officials identified the deceased man as Robert Eckhardt.

The transition road from the northbound Long Beach Freeway to the eastbound 91 Freeway and the Artesia Boulevard off-ramp from the northbound Long Beach Freeway were closed following the collision, the CHP reported.

All lanes were reopened at 9:15 p.m., according to the CHP.
