An SUV caught fire after it crashed into a guardrail on the northbound 710 Freeway in Long Beach Tuesday night.

The crash was reported on the connector ramp from the 710 Freeway to the northbound 405 Freeway at about 11:35 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses told the CHP a man was running on the transition road after the crash and the driver of a vehicle reported hitting the man with his vehicle’s passenger-side mirror, at which time the driver stopped and the man attempted to get into the vehicle. It was unclear if the running man was detained by authorities.

The crash damaged approximately 100 feet of the guardrail and prompted the closure of the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of the northbound 710 Freeway at the 405 Freeway for a few hours.

It was unclear if anyone was injured.
