Last Tuesday, 72 year-old Miguel Lopez was found injured and lying in a roadway in the area of New York St. and Alamitos Ave., the subject of an apparent beating. The victim died as a result of his injuries on Thursday, August 23 after being reported in critical condition, police said.

The investigation revealed that Lopez had been the victim of a battery and the Long Beach Police Department is looking for a black male who they believe injured the victim and left him in the street. The suspect was last seen walking south on Alamitos Ave. No motive for the crime was given.

UPDATED FRIDAY, 11:28AM| Lisa Massacani with the LBPD said that the victim was a Long Beach resident, but did not disclose whether or not he lived near where he was found. She said that while “details of the injuries, any possible weapon involved, motive and where the battery took place have not yet been determined, the investigation is ongoing and some of it will have to be determined by the Coroner after they conduct the autopsy.”
