UPDATE: She was found safe in Paramount, police say.

Long Beach police are asking for help finding a 9-year-old girl who was last seen at the end of the schoolday today.

Kaiya Pouvi was last seen at 1:30 p.m. at Bret Harte Elementary School, in the 1600 block of East Phillips Street, near South Street, after leaving her classroom when school was dismissed, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Kaiya was nowhere to be found when family members checked for her at the parent pickup zone.

Police said Kaiya gave a note to another student earlier in the day stating that she was planning to run away. School staff confirmed that Kaiya was on campus before leaving the area.

Kaiya does not have a cellphone or any device to assist with tracking her whereabouts, and has an unspecified amount of money. She was described as a 4-foot-10-inch-tall Asian girl weighing 70 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a blue raincoat with white fur on the hood, black yoga pants, and tennis shoes.

Police have not provided any information about a possible destination where Kaiya may be headed.

Anyone with information about Kaiya’s whereabouts is urged to call LBPD dispatch at 562-435-6711. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
