I sat down for a healthy and hearty breakfast at Aroma Di Roma this week. Instead of coffee I had a green tea. Although there’s nothing wrong with a cup of coffee a day, green tea provides many more health benefits than coffee. Instead of causing anxiety, which coffee often can, green tea’s active ingredient is L-Theanine, an amino acid linked with anxiety reduction and increased mental clarity.
Green Tea also has an active ingredient called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which has shown some positive research in the area of cancer prevention and reduction of stroke incidence.
Sitting out in the sun for 15 minutes also fulfilled my sun quota for the day to get adequate Vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is the new hot topic in the health world, for more info please visit this website. Grass Roots Health is a collective of medical individuals shedding light on the prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency in the U.S. Since many of us do not get adequate sunlight, our bodies are not producing adequate Vitamin D. Vitamin D has been shown to prevent free radical damage and cancer formation.
Lastly I had the Uova Benedetto, a dish served at Aroma Di Roma with two eggs on ciabatta bread. Breakfast should always be a big meal for the day, if not the biggest. Eating a large breakfast fuels the body for the day, increases energy, and balances insulin. Some research points to an increase in obesity for those that do not eat a balanced breakfast. As the saying goes: “Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper!”
