A pitbull police described as “vicious” was shot and killed Wednesday night after it and another aggressive pitbull trapped a woman and her baby inside a car in North Long Beach.

According to an LLN news videographer on the scene at 100 Ellis Ave., the woman’s husband was able to get her and the baby out of the car safely at around 9:10PM, but the dogs returned just as Long Beach Police Department and Long Beach Animal Control officers were responding.

While attempting to apprehend the dogs, a Long Beach police officer shot one that was chasing him and that dog died at the scene, said police. The second pitbull fled the area and is still on the loose.

The videographer said that the dogs were owned by a neighbor on Ellis Street and animal control officers went to the owner’s house to remove his other pets, which included a rabbit and some kittens.

No officers of community members were injured during this incident.
