1:10pm | Two of Long Beach’s most heavily used bridges are closed for the time being as a fire broke out under the Anaheim Bridge near the 710 Freeway and a big-rig truck overturned on the Gerald Desmond Bridge.

A fire broke out under the Anaheim Bridge this morning in a homeless encampment along the Los Angeles River. Fire units responded to a sighting of smoke and discovered a fire. It was extinguished but the structural integrity of the bridge is being examined and traffic is currently closed to the bridge from the 710 Freeway. California Highway Patrol is handling the traffic situation and there is heavy traffic congestion along the Southbound 710. There were no injuries in the fire.

Elsewhere, a big-rig truck overturned on the Gerald Desmond Bridge around 10:14am today, and Fire units responded with Hazmat teams and towing trucks. The big-rig apparently crossed the center divider and ruptured its fuel tanks, spilling approximately 100 gallons of diesel into both lanes and possibly into stormdrains. The bridge remains closed and there were also no injuries in this incident.
