Today at 5:00pm is the deadline for Long Beach City Council, Long Beach Unified School District Board, and Long Beach City College Board candidates to file.

The Press-Telegram has reported that, according to the City Clerk’s Office, 11 candidates for the four open City Council seats have pulled papers to run, with five having returned them so far.

Even-numbered City Council seats are up for re-election this year. Of the current City Councilmembers, Rae Gablich and Patrick O’Donnell are termed out, though O’Donnell has recently announced his write-in campaign for a 3rd term; Councilmembers Suja Lowenthal and Dee Andrews are eligible to run for a second term, and thus far it appears Andrews will run unopposed.
