With incumbent Dee Andrews and challenger Ahmed Carl Saafir confirmed to run for the 6th District City Council seat, a surprise announcement has come from the camp of Al Austin – the man who narrowly lost to Andrews and many believed would challenge again.
“After much consideration, I’ve decided against participating as a candidate for City Council in the April 8, 2008 election,” announced a statement on Austin’s website. “My decision was very personal and difficult. I do however intend on continuing to build my record of service by remaining involved and accessible to our community.”
