A 65-year-old man whose body washed ashore near the Belmont Pier in Long Beach was publicly identified by authorities Monday. He was Ray Scott, according to the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner.

Investigators are still trying to determine his cause of death. An autopsy was scheduled.

Scott’s body was discovered around 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of Ocean Boulevard and 36th Place, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

Paramedics and lifeguards responded and discovered his body along the waterline where it appeared to have washed up, according to the LBFD. They quickly determined Scott was deceased and the investigation began.
