A man who was fatally struck by a vehicle in Long Beach was identified today.

The pedestrian was identified by county authorities as Rudy Diaz, 51.

His city of residence was not known.

Diaz was struck about 12:40 a.m. Thursday in the 3300 block of South Street and died at the scene, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“Through their preliminary investigation, officers determined the pedestrian was walking northbound across South Street, outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a Honda that was being driven by an adult resident of the city of Lakewood,” police said in a statement.

“The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation,” police said. “At this time, neither speed nor distracted or impaired driving are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.”

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Det. Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
