Eight local schools in the Long Beach Unified School District were named to lists that recognize outstanding schools across the state of California for their high academic achievement and progress toward closing achievement gaps.

Four schools were named to the Star Schools Award and four were named to the Scholar Schools Award; the former recognizing schools with significant populations of disadvantaged students that have shown proficiency increases, while the latter recognizes schools that show high academic achievement but do not have significant populations of disadvantaged students.

The list of LBUSD winners is below:

Star Schools Award
California Academy of Mathematics and Science
Emerson Parkside Academy
International Elementary
Mann Elementary

Scholar Schools Award
Gant Elementary
Lowell Elementary
Naples Elementary
Newcomb Academy

The lists are created by California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE).

“We’re delighted to have so many schools on this prestigious Honor Roll,” said LBUSD superintendent Chris Steinhauser, in a statement. “Business leaders know high quality schools when they see them, so this is truly an honor. It’s also testament to the tireless work of our teachers, support staff, administrators, parents and many others.”
