10:20am | Beer & Politics is back! Did you miss it? After a several month hiatus, the community public forum will return to Gallagher’s Pub on Broadway tonight to host a discussion about the proposed development at the intersection of 2nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway. The fun begins at 7:00pm.

Developers are looking to transform the current property – consisting of a hotel and other aging businesses – into a major commercial and residential square that serves as the gateway to east Long Beach. However, opponents take issue with the plans that ignore coastal development codes such as a height limit of three stories for buildings (the second+pch project includes a 12-story apartment building). You can also expect the issue of increased traffic to be raised tonight.

You’ll have plenty of opportunity to get your questions to the people in charge. Project developers David Malmuth and Cliff Ratkovich will be on hand, along with Elizabeth Lambe of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust. Third District Councilmember Gary DeLong, who has remained neutral thus far and whose district encompasses the project, will also attend.

As always, you can attend the forum and ask a question to any of the presenters in person, or you can watch the debate from your computer and submit questions online.
