Last week’s State Of The City address brought out Long Beach residents from all walks of life, a diverse display of spirit (LB Cyclists), music (Kokoro Taiko Kai) and meetings of the minds as everyone gathered in the Carpenter Center on the CSULB campus to hear the Mayor speak.

His 30-minute speech addressed the economic struggles ahead, promised to embrace a new attitude in government spending and called on Long Beach to remember the “Greatest Generation” and the trials and tribulations they overcame to create the modern America.  It was three times as long as Gov. Schwarzenegger’s State of the State – delivered just two days later – though seemed just right.

Today, the Mayor and several Councilmembers are in Washington D.C. to witness history tomorrow.  Those of us who are unlucky enough to be stuck back in Long Beach will just have to take solace in the fact that we can wear shorts in January.  Take some time to remember the powerful message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and check out these photos from the State Of The City address last week, submitted to the lbpost.com by Yvonne.
