A bicyclist was critically injured after colliding with a motorist near Poly High School Friday night, authorities said.

The crash happened near 15th Street and Atlantic Avenue at about 10:15 p.m. on March 8.

Arriving officers found the bicyclist, a man, lying unconscious, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria.

Paramedics transported him to a local hospital in critical but stable condition, she said.

“The driver of the vehicle, a male adult in a BMW sedan, was driving southbound on Atlantic Avenue and collided with the bicyclist who may have gone against a red light,” Chavarria said.

Authorities said the driver was not under the influence and remained at the scene until officers released him.

The incident remains under investigation.
