UPDATE | Authorities have identified the man who died after riding his bicycle during the bike tour portion of the Long Beach Marathon and suffered cardiac arrest.

Steven Hernandez, 59, died shortly after being transported to the hospital. The autopsy of his death is pending, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

PREVIOUSLY: Bicyclist Dies at Long Beach Marathon

On 10/10/16 at 12:20PM | A man died yesterday after riding his bicycle as part of the bike tour portion of the Long Beach Marathon and suffering cardiac arrest, according to authorities.

According to Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) spokesman Jake Heflin, paramedics already at the race course, who were assigned to the marathon initially worked to resuscitate the man at Ocean Boulevard and Prospect Avenue in the morning. They eventually called for an ambulance at 6:27AM.

The man was then transported to a local hospital where he died, according to Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. As of 4:00PM Monday, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said they did not yet have the man’s body. He has not yet been identified.

Race officials said that more than 20,000 participants and more than 20,000 spectators flocked to Long Beach for the races that took place Saturday and Sunday, starting Sunday in Long Beach at 6:00AM.
