11:01am | A cyclist in his late 60s was killed Saturday after a motorist collided with the bicycle the man was riding, police said.

Long Beach Police Department officers responded to the scene at about 6:48 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and the 103 (Terminal Island) Freeway, where they found a man who had been riding a bicycle lying in the roadway, according to information provided by LBPD spokeswoman Lisa Massacani.

Officers attempted to resuscitate the cyclist until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene asa result of his injuries, Massacani said.

The 68-year-old man’s identity was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.

Police have determined that the driver of a 2011 Honda Accord traveling eastbound on PCH collided with the cyclist, who was also traveling eastbound on PCH. The driver, a 46-year-old Long Beach woman, was questioned at the scene and released, Massacani said.

The investigation is ongoing.
