Yesterday evening, a car traveling southbound on Bellflower Boulevard collided with a bicyclist heading westbound on Atherton Street, resulting in the death of the adult female cyclist.
The bicyclist, a 50-year-old resident of Long Beach, was going westbound on Atherton at around 7:15PM when she attempted to cross Bellflower against a solid red. A 19-year-old resident of Los Alamitos driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey was passing through the green light southbound on Bellflower Blvd when the car struck the cyclist.
The driver, while attempting to render aid to the victim, called 9-1-1. Long Beach Police and Fire both arrived, with Fire officers transporting the victim to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver was released at the scene with no charges pending.
