A man on a bicycle was killed Saturday afternoon in a collision with a vehicle in front of the Metro A Line station in Long Beach.
The crash occurred about 3:20 p.m. Saturday on Pacific Place just north of Wardlow Road, according to a Long Beach Police Department press release.
Police said the driver of a 2021 Jeep Gladiator was headed northbound on Pacific when the bicyclist rode into lanes to cross the street north of the intersection.
“The driver of the Jeep attempted to swerve out of the way but was unable to avoid the bicyclist colliding into the side of her vehicle,” police said.
The driver immediately stopped and tried to help the bicyclist, but he later died at the hospital, police said.
“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” police said. “Distracted driving, impaired driving and speed were not believed to be a factor at the time of the collision.”
Police asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Detective Jeff Meyer at 562-570-7355.
