(CNS) – The transition route from the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway to the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway was closed down early today after a truck ran into an overpass, authorities said.

A big rig laden with metal spools weighing 50,000-80,000 pounds struck the underside of the 91 overpass as it traveled on the transition road, according to the California Highway Patrol online incident log.

The crash required an inspection of the damaged structure as well as the transfer of the big rig’s load, according to the incident log.

The accident was reported around 3:40 a.m. The transition lanes were not expected to reopen before 9:30 a.m.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
