A rice cooker left inside a Long Beach Airport parking structure on Monday evening triggered a police response and a bomb scare.

Police got a call about the unattended item at about 6:40 p.m., LBPD spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said. Officers surrounded the second floor of the parking structure and checked the area, finding no other items, according to the department.

A bomb squad from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department determined the item wasn’t dangerous at about 9:50 p.m., Dandoy said. The appliance was filled with cooked rice, she said.

The incident did not affect airport operations.
