Budget issues abound in City Hall today as the nine-member Council will visit several financial items during their weekly meeting, including a special budget workshop to review Budget Oversight Committee Recommendations and receive public input, beginning at 3:30pm today.  The City Council meeting will be held following the workshop, at 5:00pm as usual.

The budget workshop will hear recommendations from the Budget Oversight Committee – chaired by Third District Councilman Gary DeLong – followed by Council deliberation and public input from anyone present (time limited to three minutes).

The City Council meeting that will follow also promises to address key City financial issues.  A DeLong recommendation to reduce the City Prosector’s budget by 10% will be deliberated in an effort to “achieve parity with other citywide elected officials” who have also been forced to adhere to the reductions.  Just five agenda items later, the Council will visit a recommendation to approve the purchase of a $240,922 LNG loader refuse truck, with the option to purchase additional units.

The Council will also vote whether or not to approve the 2009 Harbor Department budget as adopted by the Board of Harbor Commissioners.
