2:15pm | Long Beach said goodbye to iconic local bookstore Acres of Books for the final time in October 2008. A few weeks ago, Long Beach said goodbye to Acres for the final final time. And today, it was announced that a few weeks from now, Long Beach will say goodbye to Acres for the final final final time.
A press release from the ArtExchange (ARTX), which will one day occupy the Acres building, indicates that the store will be re-opened one last time (the press release actually underlined the word last) on Saturday, August 28 from 2:00-7:00pm. The same system in place for the July final final goodbye will be used for the August final final final goodbye, as buyers can purchase vintage crates for $25.00 and then fill them with as many books as they can hold. There are still more than 15,000 books on the shelves.
The event will run in conjunction with BuskerFest, the popular day of live band performances in the Summer And Music (SAM) series. It should be noted that the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency (RDA) is a partner of both the ArtX and SAM.
A history of Acres Of Books will be read at 3:00pm, and BuskerFest begins at 5:00pm. There will be music and refreshments in the store while bands compete outside to earn wooden nickels from music fans. The fun of BuskerFest is that the bands compete to see who can acquire the most nickels from fans.
So head on out on August 28th to say goodbye to Acres one final final final time, until the next time there’s an opportunity to re-open Acres to promote an event and you can say goodbye for a final final final final time.
