The governing board of the Intermodal Container Transfer Facility rail yard’s Joint Powers Authority is holding a public hearing on Oct. 26 at 6:00pm in Long Beach, a meeting that is expected to include an update on preparation of an environmental impact report on the proposed expansion of the 148-acre rail yard near West Long Beach.

Once finalized, the meeting agenda will be posted at ictf-jpa.org. The meeting is at the Silverado Park Social Hall, 1545 West 31st St. A similar meeting in 2009 drew criticism from west Long Beach residents (click here). Representatives from the Union Pacific rail company say that the updated project will reduce emissions by as much as 75% once fully operational (click here).

The ICTF rail yard services truck and rail cargo through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The facility is five miles north of the ports, at Highway 103 and is operated by Union Pacific Railroad.

The ICTF-JPA is a public entity created in 1983 to oversee the development and operation of the ICTF. This JPA is administered by a governing board that operates separately and apart from the cities of Long Beach and Los Angeles. For more information, contact the ICTF-JPA via ictf-jpa.org/contact.
