Starting at 7:00PM tonight a 55-hour closure at Ocean Boulevard and SR-47 will extend through 6:00AM on Monday to facilitate the removal of temporary concrete and its replacement with permanent rapid-set concrete, according to a Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project update released today about Caltrans’ project to replace the Commodore Schuyler Heim Bridge on SR 47.
All lanes will be closed for the northbound SR-47/103 at Ocean, but motorists and truckers will be able to access that route through the westbound Ocean off-ramp or northbound New Dock Street on-ramp.
The closure also includes the southbound Henry Ford on-ramp to SR-47. There are two detour routes for those headed south to Terminal Island in the area of the on-ramp:
1. From Henry Ford Avenue: Travel east on Anaheim Street, turn left onto west I Street, then take the southbound SR-103 on-ramp.
2. From Pier A Plaza: Travel east on Pier A Way, then turn left onto north Pier B Street, continue to Pico Avenue headed south, then take the on-ramp to westbound Ocean Boulevard to go over the Gerald Desmond Bridge.

Editor’s Note: The closures originally reported as the last major closure for the bridge replacement project were in reference to the Caltrans project to replace the Commodore Schuyler Heim Bridge, not the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project.
