Locals will get a chance to try free slices of New York-style pizza during the grand opening celebration of the newly opened Flippin’ Pizza in Long Beach this Saturday.

Long Beach Councilwoman Stacy Mungo will also take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which is set to take place on Saturday, August 8, from 11:00AM to 2:00PM at the restaurant on 6269 East Spring Street.

In addition, guests who donate to the Girl Scout Council of Greater Long Beach will receive a Flippin’ Pizza gift card.

Two-time World Pizza Champion Fabio Ferrari will be on hand to teach guests how to authentically flip a pizza as well, according to a press release.

Prizes will also be available, including the opportunity to win free pizza for a year.

The location makes it the 10th franchise in the state, with many more throughout the nation and in other countries. The owners are Long Beach natives and graduates from Long Beach Poly.

“Our goal has always been to bring an authentic New York pizza joint to our hometown,” said co-owner Mike Lambrakis. “We believe everyone should experience the best pizza, even those of us on the West Coast.”

Flippin’ Pizza launched in 2007 and is known for its dough made daily with water filtered to copy the water in New York to give the pizza a “New York taste,” the release stated.

The Long Beach restaurant officially opened for business on June 22.
