2:00am | The Port of Long Beach is beefing up its 6th Annual Green Port Fest with what organizers are calling “the Wyland Living Green Fair,” a planned interactive exhibit by environmental muralist and activist Wyland.
The fest, being held Oct. 2, is showcasing Wyland painting a large mural with the help of people who come to the event. Wyland is known for his large nature paintings, such as the giant whale mural on the Long Beach Arena.
The festival runs 10:00am-3:00pm. The event offers attendees a “behind-the-scenes journey through one of the world’s busiest and greenest seaports,” according to its organizers.
As part of the Living Green Fair featuring Wyland, Toyota will display hybrid vehicles and Whole Foods Market employees will give tips on healthy living.
Other event offerings include: A glimpse at the port’s green technologies; views of wildlife in the harbor; a chance to learn about the latest in security technology at the port; close-up views of the port’s behemoth heavy equipment; entertainment, including local musicians and children’s activities; bike, train and boat tours; games, giveaways and food.
Free parking is being provided by the Long Beach Convention Center. As part of the spirit of the event, organizers are asking attendees to try to carpool, bike or ride city buses to the event. For more information visit polb.com/portfest.
